Ministry & The Revolting Cocks @ 930 Club 6/21/06

The Revolting Cocks have a new album out or coming out or something, how is this possible? And there is some new singer guy? huh? Who would possibly understand this? My hopes for this set were dashed pretty early when the flavor was heading towards the mind numbing section of their reportoire. Beers, Steers and Queers, Stainless Steel Providers, (Lets Get) Physical, all got played with equal irreverance with no trace of 38 or We Shall Cleanse the World to be found.. Dammit!  Luc Van Acker was in attendance and seemed to enjoy having a lot of people paying attention, and that enjoyment translated a bit to us(me) enjoying the show, but even breaking out the Do ya Think I’m Sexy cover couldn’t bring it up from underwhelming… I think it’s basically an excuse for Al to play some guitar.

Because Al didn’t really play any guitar for Ministry. He got a minute or two solo somewhere, but it was a midtempo bluesy thing. Al had a series of items down his arms, and it was hard to tell if it was classic metal flair, or possibly something more. They looked to me like the braces that a friend had worn in the past for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, but i’m probably way off on that one, and couldn’t tell one way or another even after focusing on them for way too long.

I don’t know that i really care for the new material, but i was hapy to have the new videos backing them up. I was amazed to see the face of one Hugo Chavez lighting up the 930 club, and even more amazed to realize that the entire video was going to be Chavez?  From Ministry?, holy crap! Maybe i’m too harsh, but i can’t think that more that 5% of the non-latino crowd at this show even knew who the guy was… but that just made me love it more.. They had quotes with Chavez saying (paraphrased) “Of course we want to fight terrorism, but we don’t want to fight it like this (holds up picture) These babies were alive yesterday..”

The video went on to show him surviving the coup attempt, and some other stuf fthat i really couldn’t focus on due to it’s artistic display, but if Chavez needs a benefit concert sometime, i think Ministry is probably on the bill.

As always, The classic tunes make me warm in my very core. Thieves, So What, and Stigmata are still in rotation, with NWO, Just One Fix, and Psalm 69 all in the mix from the Psalm 69 album. But with each new album, the old stuff gets thinner and thinner. Supernaut is out, no Breathe this time around. Oh Well, I’ll be back again next time, just to watch the videos if nothing else..
