The Coup @ The Black Cat 6/12/06
Because of my destroyed glasses, i probly missed some of the details on this one. Sorry. Of the 3 openers before the Coup, local boys the Poem-cees, were first on, but best by far to my ears… but The Coup, ahhh The Coup…
For a band that doesn’t seem to tour too much they had it down nicely. Boots, brought along a funk trio - bass, drums, guitar, and along with a laptop that had to do, as Pam got a shout out, but could not be in attendance. And i should not forget the lovely Silk E as the eye candy that refused to be just eye candy. The new album features her on Baby Lets Have a Baby, and after seeing her in person, i understand why. She acquitted herself quite well.
They bounced all over the catalogue, and in order to squeeze in more material, hardly ever finished anything. The band was tight, and the arrangements helped even the material that i didn’t enjoy so much on the latest release… One of my personal favorite tracks is Ghetto Manifesto (call me bird cause of my legs but my ass don’t sing/got a house arrest anklet but it don’t bling bling/gotta homie with a cell but that shit don’t ring), and they saved it for last, but substituted Outkast’s So Fresh So Clean for the usual music. Ahh paying tribute to the funk, and startin’ the revolution. God Bless ‘em.
