Gossip @The Black Cat 3/23/06
I was already peeking at this one earlier this week, but expected my other obsession to win out. This morning however, i had an email waiting to offer the encouragement i needed to step away from the tournament and get the rock and roll on. I was glad i did (at least i can say that now before checking to see what dramatic hoops action i missed).
Gossip is a 3 piece from, err, well, i’m sure it says somewhere on their website. The setup is drums, guitar/bass, and vocals, and they all seem to know what they are doing. The singer can BELT. It’s A.D.D.’s theory that a good scream sets the cool singers apart (Max Cavalera, James Brown, Ian Svenonius) from the singers, and she had the scream, the yell, and the belt-it-out-righteous all working for her tonight. The guitar was wonderful, and silly effortless at the same time. The drums tight, showing off in the right spots, but letting the vocals and stings drive everything. I liked it, and showed my support by picking up the only available LP, and a couple CD’s. I expect to enjoy them, and will check them out during The Commute ™ tomorrow.
