A.D.D.’s own Music

As some of you may know, A.D.D. is itself a DJ name, and A.D.D. is himself a wanna be DJ. On a couple of occassions, i have even played a real DJ, though people caught on pretty quickly. (I DJ’ed two friends wedding receptions.)

The short version:

So as a DJ, i put together some whack beats.. Have a listen!

The long version:

As a frustrated musician, I’m not happy to simply listen to records, i must create, and i must do it without playing any instruments of my own (since i can’t play any). This means that i am a sampler and that i teeter on the edge of the (copyright) law. I am a rebel, baby.

Making music from samples puts me in league with Hip Hop producers more than anyone else, but my output is seldom Hip Hop-like. I really don’t know what it is like. Sometimes the results are along the mash up lines, but usually i don’t consider anything finished until i’ve run it through the mash up super-collider FermiLab style.

Since rap rock has birthed a lot of crap, and is basically an excuse for rock bands not to put up with wussy vocalists, i certainly won’t claim that genre affiliation. Plus i don’t have an MC. It doesn’t have the crazy skills of a Mixmaster Mike scratch session, but i’d like to think it shares some of the mentality that he has, where he’s basically building a coherent sound out of other people’s scraps.

I listened to a lot of Ministry when i was first really getting into music, and i’d like to think that my stuff is sort of what the industrial set would have done with a more Hip Hop/sampling mentality. A lot of my stuff ends up having the repetition that say an A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste era Ministry track might have, but if i have done well, there are a bunch of layers to the loops.

You be the judge, have a listen!
