Don’t forget Roger!
October 11th, 2006 by A.D.D.Happy Illini news from yesteryear - today! A post at Illini Loyalty directed me to The Salt Lake Tribune’s interview with Roger Powell from Tuesday.
‘What?’ I said. ‘He is still with the team?’ I had posted on the summer league numbers, and Roger’s weren’t, errr, good. But i didn’t see the games, and number’s, they don’t tell the whole story. Apparently Jerry Sloan liked what he saw (although some of what he is seeing is undoubtedly in his head, where potential and upside make their happy home), and Roger is hoping to make a roster spot.
But that was yesterday, what about today?! I’m glad you asked, you have helped me segue into my next bit of information.
The Jazz played an exhibition vs the Lakers last night. Notable to the SLT writer was the absence of a four forward lineup that had been successful for the team late last year. They can now go to Giricek, rookie Ronnie Brewer, CJ Miles, and newcomer Derek Fisher as well. Sorry, What’s that Coach?
“Don’t forget Roger [Powell] - he can play [guard] too,” added Sloan.
Encouraging words. Roger Powell, Jr. and Poland - Not to be forgotten!
Thinking ahead.. Does anyone know if Eric Gordon likes the Jazz? Before we go ahead and solidy ourselves as a farm team, we should consider the recruiting implications now.
